Kangana Ranaut could not have made a better return after Queen. A sequel to the Tanu weds Manu of 2011, the film was widely praised by the viewers for its humorous screenplay and witty dialogues. Kangana’s double roles as the vivacious ‘Tanu’ and even as the fiery ‘Kusum’ were much appreciated. The film actually managed to woo the audience with its real and raw sense of comic timing.

Dum Laga Ke Haisha

Story, screenplay: Sharat Katariya

Yash Raj films have entertained us with a lot of romantic movies but this story from the banner came as breath of fresh air. Blessing the viewers with a talent like Bhumi Pednekar, the film gave us a peek into what arrange marriages in a traditional joint family could be like. Not only were the performances great but the characterizations of every actor was commendable as well. Kudos to Sharat for this film!

Story, screenplay: Juhi Chaturvedi

Who would have thought that a Bollywood film, which is based on the concept of ‘motions’ will be able to charm the audiences? The magic of Shoojit Sircar’s direction gave us Piku and some solid performances from the film. Not only were the two hours entertaining, it also gave us a good chemistry between the unusual pair of Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan

Story, screenplay: KV Vijayendra Prasad, Kabir Khan and Parveez Sheikh

More than the ‘sanskari’ Bhaijaan and the scenic locales of this Indo-Pakistan tragedy movie, what was much liked by the audiences was the unique script of the film. Baahubali writer KV Vijayendra Prasad impressed the critics with his writing and managed to give two superhit scripts to the year 2015 (Bajrangi Bhaijaan followed by Baahubali). Messages of love, empathy and humanity were so beautifully shared in this amazing journey.

Angry Indian Goddesses

Not only did the film make rounds of many film festivals but also created much hype before its release – thanks to its name which irked the sensibilities of the Censor Board. However, after its release, not many could deny that its approach, its story and the screenplay was fresh and brought something new to the table. We had seen a Zindagi Na Milega Dobara with the boys but this was one of the first efforts for an ‘outing with girls’. Nouveau indeed!

Bogota: Colombian media and social networks lit up with reactions to the botched Miss Universe finale on Sunday night, which saw the national contestant crowned and dethroned in a matter of minutes. The pageant host, US comedian Steve Harvey, announced that Miss Colombia Adriana Gutierrez won the coveted crown but moments later corrected his mistake, giving the title to Miss Philippines, Xinhua reported. Colombians went from ecstatic to disappointed emotions in the blink of an eye, as Harvey tried to set things right. “Adriana Gutierrez was Miss Universe for four and a half minutes,” Colombia’s Caracol news network headlined a story about the bungle on the front page of its website. Adding insult to injury, in one of Harvey’s many online apologies, he misspelled the name of the country. “Steve Harvey, the one who made the Miss Universe mistake, called the country ‘Columbia’,” another article pointed out. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos had immediately celebrated the win via Twitter, posting “Colombian women are the most beautiful in the world! Congratulations Miss Universe 2015 Adriana Gutierrez! Our pride!” But he corrected with flair, later posting “Adriana Gutierrez, you are still our Miss Universe! We feel very proud!”

Jaipur #Rajasthan It was a good Friday at the Bollywood box office with big budget films ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ raking in over Rs 20 crore and Rs 12 crore respectively on the opening day itself.
It was termed as a clash of the titans when Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dilwale’ opposite Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ were going to be released on the same day.
Eventually, both the films seem to have found their own audience. Industry experts say though ‘Dilwale’ has opened to packed houses, the numbers will only get better for ‘Bajirao Mastani’.
‘Dilwale’ amassed Rs 21 crore, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh while the net box office collection in India for “Bajirao Mastani” is Rs 12.80 crore.

The distributors term ‘Bajirao Mastani’ as a ‘slow-starter’, adding that the weekend will decide the fate of both the films.
“It all depends on the weekend. Though ‘Dilwale’ has opened up well, I don’t see ‘Dilwale’ sustaining too long after the weekend. As far as ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is concerned, it’s a slow-starter. It will sustain in the long run and I don’t think there will be a dip in the collection in “Bajirao Mastani’ even after the weekend,” distributor Sanjay Ghai from Delhi said.
Directed by Rohit Shetty, ‘Dilwale’ brings back SRK and Kajol together on the silver screen after a gap of five years with a story laced with action, rib-tickling comedy and romance.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’, on the other hand, turns back the clock to narrate the historical love saga of Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I (Ranveer) and his relationship with Mastani (Deepika). The film also stars Priyanka Chopra.
Another industry expert Manoj Desai from Gaiety Galaxy emphasised that the response to Bhansali’s magnums opus is growing with word of mouth.
“‘Bajirao Mastani’ has got more appreciation and it is growing through word of mouth. ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is houseful along with ‘Dilwale’ on Saturday and that’s a positive sign,” Desai said.
The distributors also assert that content will be the final winner of the box office war.
Ghai said: “Both the films are extremely different. While ‘Dilwale’ is for masses, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is for the class audience and ultimately it’s the content that will steal the show.”
Ranveer and Deepika, who are reportedly dating each other, are thrilled with the positive response. Deepika said: “It’s been a very emotional and overwhelming experience. I haven’t seen so much appreciation for a film till now.”
The release of the films was also met with protests at various cities across India on Friday, resulting in a minor setback for them.
Trade guru Sunil Bansal from Rajasthan told IANS: “Due to protests, a few shows of ‘Dilwale’ were cancelled in Rajasthan. As far as ‘Bajirao Mastani’ was concerned, only one or two centres in Maharashtra were affected.”
“Bajirao Mastani” has released in 3050 screens in India, while it is reported that “Dilwale” made its way into as many as 2700 screens. The budgets of both films are clearly over Rs 100 crore.

What would she tell our child? That the father is in jail?’ Salman wanted to be out of the legal tangles before marrying. Earlier, in an interview on TV, Salman had said that he would ‘think about marrying only after the courts give their verdicts’. And if the verdicts from the courts went against him, the actor said, then he would marry only after being released from jail.

Khan-starrer “Dilwale”, releasing this week, alleging that the actor “ignored the plight of farmers reeling under severe drought”.

“Farmers in Maharashtra, specially in Marathwada, are reeling under drought. Khan, who has been residing in the state and has made a lot of money, has not helped farmers in distress,” MNS Chitrapat Karmachari Sena Chief Amey Khopkar told PTI.

“When his help is needed, he isn’t forthcoming,” Mr Khopkar said.

Asked if MNS will seek a ban on the film, he said, “We are not seeking a ban. We are only appealing people to boycott the film.”

“SRK is taking Maharashtra for granted,” he added.
