Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has won the ‘Global Indian of the Year’ award.

Aishwarya was honoured at NRI of the Year award function held here last evening.

The actress, 42, dedicated the award to her daughter Aaradhya.

“I was very passionate about making it more than a perceived beauty pageant. For me, I all along believed that it was the opportunity to represent an Indian woman on the international platform. I believe that from then until today, in 2016, it continues,” Aishwarya said in a statement here.

“I am glad to have been chosen to be a feature film artist and a career woman. I have had so many opportunities, personally, professionally, socially,” she said.

The “Dhoom 2” actress will be seen next in “Sarabjit” alongside Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha

Besides Aishwarya, noted tennis player Sania Mirza was also honoured at the NRI of the Year Award 2016.

Altogether 17 individuals were given the awards under different categories like entrepreneur, professional, academics, arts & culture, philanthropy, special jury award, global icon of the year and India’s global icon award.

The NRI of the Year Award recognises outstanding achievements of the Indian diaspora globally.PTI

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says it’s a great honour for him to introduce Britain’s Royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton.

They are arriving on their first visit to India on Sunday, April 10.

They Royal couple will be given a starry reception on their arrival in the city which will be attended by film stars including SRK, Aamir Khan, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, according to the British High Commission.

“There will be lot of actors and friends so it will be fun. I think it’s a big honour to be there and introduce them and be nice.

“We will decide if they want to see the film (‘Fan’) or not. In England they still watch our films. So hopefully let’s see,” Shah Rukh, 50, told PTI when asked if he is planning a special screening of “Fan” for the Royal couple.

During the interview, the public relations team of “Fan” said, we suggested him (Shah Rukh) to do ‘dubsmash’ with them (on ‘Jabra’ Fan).

To which the “Happy New Year” star replied, “They will never allow it.”

“I am told there is a decor and I said OK tell me what to do. It shouldn’t be like they don’t let my kids to study in London,” the “Dilwale” actor joked.

Apart from introducing the Royal couple, another important task Shah Rukh has tomorrow, is to support his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, who have a match against Delhi Daredevils.

“I have my match (tomorrow). I want to watch it (and) I want to go to Kolkata. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that it is important that I introduce Prince Williams and his wife Kate. I just introduce them. I am not performing for them. Nobody is performing,” the King Khan added.

Directed by Maneesh Sharma, “Fan” starring SRK in double role and Walusha De Sousa is slated to release on April 15.PTI

Jungle Book: Origins” is coming later than expected while “Wonder Woman”, on the other hand, is inching closer than scheduled, Warner Bros has announced.

“Jungle Book”, directed by Andy Serkis, will now arrive on October 19, 2018, slightly over a year from its October 6, 2017 original date, but Serkis is “absolutely thrilled” about the delay, reported Ace Showbiz.

“The ambition for this project is huge. What we are attempting is an unprecedented level of psychological and emotional nuance in morphing the phenomenal performances of our cast into the facial expressions of our animals,” Serkis said.

He added, “So, every minute more that we have to evolve the technological pipeline will make all the difference.

…The evidence is there already and it’s off the chain exciting, so hang on in there. …This is truly next-generation storytelling, and it will be the real deal!”

Meanwhile, “Wonder Woman” is ready to invade theatres on June 2, 2017 after being moved up from its original June 23, 2017 date.

Other untitled DC films will hit theatres October 5, 2018, and November 1, 2019. An unnamed WB “event film” has been dated for October 6, 2017.PTI.

The music launch of Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali-starrer “Ghar Wapsi” was today cancelled with the director claiming there were security threats.

However, the management of Royal Plaza where the event was to be held this afternoon said it was cancelled as there was “no information about it” and also “no documentation”.

The film’s director Suhaib Illyasi claimed he received a call from Vishnu Gupta of Hindu Sena threatening to disrupt the event.

“It is regrettable that Ghulam Ali’s music launch has been cancelled by the hotel management. We were told not to keep the event here as they feared that people from Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Hindu Sena would disrupt it and destroy hotel property,” he told reporters here.

Police personnel were deployed outside the venue and even detained a few men who were chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. A few of them said they were volunteers of Hindu Sena.

The director plans to reschedule the launch but is yet to decide where it will be organised.

“We will surely organise the launch again. I knew such an incident could happen that’s why we had written to Delhi Police and the home ministry to provide us security and I am happy that Indian government and the police did their best.

Despite this, the hotel has decided to call off the event.”

Former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, who claimed he was invited to the event but not allowed to go inside, said, “Today is a blot on culture and tradition. It is a black day.

If in free India, someone is troubled because he is a Khan or someone in Pakistan is heckled because he is a Mishra or Chaubey then what is the difference between India and Pakistan.”

The music release of “Ghar Wapsi” was cancelled in January following Shiv Sena’s opposition in Mumbai.

Ali, 75, whose several concerts in India had to be cancelled last year following Sena threats, is making his acting debut with the Hindi feature film set to release in June.

Besides acting, the singer has also composed and sung an Indian patriotic song for the movie.

The film also stars Alok Nath, Farida Jalal, Reema Lagoo, Deepak Tijori and Zarina Wahab. Singers like Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan have also lent their voice in the film.PTI

Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra’s mother Madhu has called the actress’ former manager Prakash Jaju “a liar” after he claimed that her daughter tried committing suicide three times during her struggling days.

Jaju, who managed the actress from 2000-2004, posted on Twitter on Sunday that one such incident was in 2002 after the death of Priyanka’s alleged former boyfriend Aseem Merchant’s mother.

The ex-manager said the 33-year-old “Quantico” star was extremely close to Merchant’s mother and did not take her demise well.

While Priyanka, who is in Los Angeles shooting for “Baywatch”, did not respond to the messages for her reaction, rebutting his claims, Madhu wrote on Twitter, “That lying b****** spent time in jail… His old mother and father fell at PC’s feet begging forgiveness.”

Things between the “Bajirao Mastani” star and Jaju turned sour when she terminated his services.

Later, he even filed a criminal suit against her, accusing that she has not cleared his dues.

Jaju, however, ended up serving 67 days in jail after Priyanka’s father, Ashok Chopra filed a complaint against him for interfering in his daughter’s privacy.PTI

After winning accolades for her last release “Neerja”, actress Sonam Kapoor hinted at working once again in a woman centric film.

In Ram Madhvani’s biopic, Sonam essayed the life of slain flight attendant Neerja Bhanot who died saving hundreds of passengers on a hijacked flight in 1986.

When asked if audiences are once again going to see her reprising a strong female character on screen, Sonam said, “I will announce something soon. I can’t talk about it.”

She did not divulge any further details of her next project.

The “Raanjhana” actress, when quizzed if she would also like to play historic female heroes, she said, “You see it. Hopefully I would like to play something like that.”

Sonam was talking on the sidelines of event ‘Women of Worth Awards’.

The 30-year-old actress on the occasion acknowledged the active role of many Indian women who helped build the nation but rued that unsung heroes like Neerja Bhanot got lost in history.

“There are lot of Indian woman who have been modern heroes who have helped in building a better India. There are lot of Indian women in the history you look at like Mother Teresa, Sarojini Naidu, Lata Mangeshkar and others,” she said.

“There are women who got lost in the page of history like Neerja Bhanot and it is sad. There is a wider variety of women that we are looking at and the more innovative things that they are doing which are cultural and scientific breakthroughs and artistic as well,” Sonam said.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan thanked all those who congratulated him for his best actor National Award win, saying he is “most grateful”.

Bachchan, 73, was named best actor for his role in Shoojit Sircar’s “Piku” at the 63rd National Film Awards announced in the capital yesterday.

“To them that congratulate me for the National Award – most grateful… thank you is never enough expression,” Bachchan wrote on Twitter.

He previously won the honour for “Agneepath”, “Black” and “Paa”.

Bachchan celebrated the win with wife Jaya Bachchan and the crew members of an advertisement he was shooting with the latter.

“Working with the wife today for an ad, promotion and some moments from there, they celebrate my National Award on set and then as I leave the studio they burst a few crackers .. sweet,” he wrote on his blog alongside some pictures from the set.

Bachchan also congratulated other winners including Gujarat, which was named the most film friendly state at the National Film Awards for its effort to ease shooting films.

“Congratulations National Award winners and to the State of Gujarat that wins ‘Most Film Friendly State’.”

Superstar Aamir Khan is bowled over by the trailer of Swara Bhaskar-starrer relationship drama “Nil Battey Sannata”.

Directed by debutant filmmaker Ashwini Iyer Tiwari,

the film talks about a single mother who enrolls in the same school as her daughter to improve her academic performance.

“Saw Nil Battey Sannata. Inspiring, moving, uplifting! Great film! Outstanding performances! A must watch! Love,” Aamir, who is busy shooting for his upcoming release “Dangal”, posted on Twitter.
